Q: What are natural or herbal supplements?
A: Supplements are taken by mouth to supplement the daily diet with ingredients like vitamins, minerals, herbs or herbal extracts, amino acids or enzymes. They come in various forms, including capsules, tablets, powders, liquids or softgels.

Q: How do I decide which vitamins and supplements to take?
A: Choosing which vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements best for you can be determined by a myriad of things like activity level, age, gender, health and diet. For example, young mothers might be interested in increasing energy level; a pre-menopausal woman may seek hormone balancing; or during the cold and flu season, you may need immune boosters. Asking your health practitioner or nutritionist which supplements are suitable for you based on your health conditions or concerns is the best place to start.

Q: Is it safe to take supplements while on prescription medication?
A: Our best advice is to ask your health practitioner prior to starting a supplement regimen – especially if you’re pregnant, planning to become pregnant, have a chronic illness or health condition.

Q: What time of day should I take my vitamins and supplements?
A: The simple answer would be that it’s best to take your vitamins during meal time. That’s because many vitamins (A, D, E and K) are fat-soluble. However, for minerals like calcium and magnesium, they’re best taken together and at nighttime for best absorption. When in doubt, read the product label.

Q: The label says “150% of my Daily Value”, how do I know I’m not overdosing on vitamins?
A: It is a general rule that water-soluble vitamins are difficult to overdose on. That’s because the body quickly excretes whatever isn’t used in the metabolic process. Fat-soluble vitamins are different though, because they’re stored in the body’s fat cells. It’s safe to stick to the recommended dosages found on the label, and ask your nutritionist or health practitioner about any further amount.

Q: Do you carry vegetarian supplements?
A: Yes we do. We carry several types of vitamins, minerals and herbs that are suitable for vegetarians and those looking for vegetarian-sourced supplements. You’ll find multivitamins, protein powders, enzymes and essential fatty acids that are all plant-based and free of animal byproducts.

Q: What are antioxidants?
A: Are exactly what their name implies: nutrients that counteract oxidation that damages cells and tissue. Oxidation occurs when we are exposed to free radicals, or damaging atoms, that lead to cell death. Free radicals can be from environmental pollutants, smoking, sun damage or x-rays, and can cause cancer, arthritis, premature aging and heart disease.

Q: My vitamins are developing spots/cracking/starting to smell foul, what’s happening?
A: This is probably because your vitamins aren’t in a cool, dry area. Be sure to keep your supplements away from heat sources: ovens, stoves, toasters, etc; and check the expiration date.
