Protecting Prostates

The prostate is a gland that surrounds the urethra in a man’s body. With age, the prostate enlarges and places pressure on the urethra of most men, leading to discomfort and frequent urination. Prostate cancer also becomes a concern. Prostate problems are one of the most common types of issues for older men. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), hundreds of thousands of men were diagnosed with prostate issues in 2005. Frequent urination occurs when the prostate is pressing against the urethra.

The development of prostate problems may be quite common for men as they get older, but not all men may recognize the symptoms that may be caused by poor prostate health. Some of the symptoms that some men may experience are frequent trips to the bathroom, low libido, difficulty urinating or feeling as though you may not have emptied your bladder. Poor prostate health can cause irritation and may cause an inflammation to the prostate gland.

While exercising and watching your diet will generally help to keep you healthy, you may also want to take a prostate supplement to help support overall prostate health. Two of the most important ingredients used in these supplements are Beta-Sitosterol and Selenium, both of which may help improve one’s prostate health.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that acts to protect the body from free-radical damage. It can help the body fight infection and inflammation. Vitamin C can be taken in supplemental form or obtained through the diet. Vitamin C-rich foods include citrus fruits, such as lemons, limes and oranges, and strawberries and melons. The Linus Pauling Institute says that many people may have low zinc levels due to a low dietary intake of this essential nutrient. Zinc can be taken in supplemental form, but there are also many food sources. Food sources of zinc include pumpkin seeds, red meat and whole grains.

A good supplement will also contain additional ingredients such as a variety of vitamins and minerals which can simultaneously aid in the general improvement of the overall immune system. If you are experiencing any symptoms of poor prostate health, seek professional medical advice immediately. There are multiple prostate treatments and methods available for men in their fifties, sixties and seventies that want to find a way to help continue to improve and support their prostate health including both traditional prostate treatments as well as natural supplements. Take the time to protect your health by eating a well balanced diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise regularly.
